More About LigaSure Vessel Sealing Devices

What is LigaSure?

LigaSure is the advanced bipolar vessel sealing technology from Covidien, now part of Medtronic. These instruments combine jaw pressure with controlled energy to seal vessels and tissue bundles, and most models include an integrated cutting blade, so the surgeon can seal and divide without exchanging instruments.

Choosing the right instrument

  • Maryland jaw (LF1923, LF1937, LF1944): a curved, tapered jaw for fine dissection, in 23cm, 37cm and 44cm shaft lengths.
  • Exact dissector (LF2019): a slim, curved jaw for precise open dissection.
  • Blunt Tip (LF1823, LF1837, LF1844): a blunt jaw for sealing and dissection in open and laparoscopic cases.
  • Impact (LF4418): a large curved jaw for open procedures with larger tissue bundles.
  • Small Jaw (LF1212A), L-Hook (LF5637, LF5644) and XP Maryland (LXMJ37, LXMJ44) for specific open and laparoscopic needs.

Generator compatibility

Most current nano-coated models are designed for the Covidien Valleylab FT10 and ForceTriad energy platforms, while some older Atlas models require a specific generator. Confirm compatibility with your equipment and always follow the manufacturer's instructions for use.

Ordering tips

The fastest way to reorder is by reference number: the four digits after "LF" identify the jaw style and shaft length, so match the number on your current box. Some sealers are sold individually and others by the box, so check the purchase unit on each product page before you add it to your cart.

LigaSure Vessel Sealing Devices FAQ

What does the LigaSure LF1937 reference number mean?

LF1937 is the LigaSure Maryland jaw sealer/divider with a 37cm shaft. The LF19xx family shares the Maryland jaw design, and the last two digits indicate shaft length: LF1923 is 23cm and LF1944 is 44cm.

Are LigaSure instruments reusable?

LigaSure instruments are labeled for single use. Any reprocessed device we carry is clearly labeled “Reprocessed” in its product name so you always know what you are ordering.

Which generator do LigaSure instruments work with?

Most current LigaSure instruments work with the Covidien Valleylab FT10 and ForceTriad energy platforms. Check the product labeling or contact our team to confirm compatibility with your generator before ordering.

What is the difference between LigaSure and Harmonic?

LigaSure uses bipolar radiofrequency energy with jaw pressure to seal vessels, while Harmonic uses ultrasonic vibration. Both seal and divide tissue; the right choice depends on the procedure, surgeon preference and the energy platform at your facility.
