The Harmonic scalpel is Ethicon's ultrasonic surgical energy line. Instead of passing electrical current through tissue, the blade vibrates at ultrasonic frequency to cut and coagulate at the same time, which is why surgeons often choose these shears for precise dissection with limited lateral thermal spread.
Current shears connect to the Ethicon Generator G11, either through a reusable hand piece or an integrated hand piece, depending on the model. Confirm the hand piece and generator at your facility and follow the manufacturer's instructions for use.
Reference numbers encode the model and shaft length, so HAR36 is the ACE 36cm and HARHD20 is the HD 1000i 20cm. Match the number and length on your current box, and check whether you need shears only or a replacement hand piece before you order.
