Floseal Hemostatic Matrix

What is Floseal?

Floseal Hemostatic Matrix is a flowable hemostat from Baxter that combines a gelatin matrix with thrombin. The Recothrom version uses recombinant thrombin. Because the matrix is flowable, it can be applied to irregular surfaces and hard-to-reach areas where a sheet or pad may not conform well.

Choosing a kit size

• 5ml kit (ADS202105): for procedures that typically need a smaller volume of hemostatic matrix.
• 10ml kit (ADS202110): for procedures where a larger volume may be needed.

Kits are prepared at the point of use. Always follow Baxter's instructions for use for preparation, application and storage.

How it compares with other hemostats

This matrix is often compared with Surgiflo Hemostatic Matrix, another gelatin-based flowable hemostat, and with powders such as Arista AH. For oozing on flat surfaces, many teams use sheet hemostats such as Surgicel. Your surgeons' preferences, the type of bleeding and your facility's contracts usually decide which product the OR keeps on hand.
